It is also the administrative headquarters of the Amravati district. Among the historical landmarks in the city are the temples of Amba, Shri Krishna and Shri Venkateshwara.
Like many other small cities, Amravati is ramping up its infrastructure. New flyovers and roads are being built under the Integrated Road Development Programme (IRDP) of the Government of Maharashtra.
Amravati is growing as an industrial center, with cotton mills leading the way. Amravati district is home to Vidarbha Sugar Mills Ltd., Kurha. It is the sole surviving sugar factory in Amravati region.
